Transport for London (TfL) is a local government body responsible for most aspects of the transport system in Greater London in England, formerly named "London Transport" (LT). Its role is to implement the transport strategy and to manage transport services across London. Its head office is in Windsor House in the City of Westminster.
TfL has responsibility for London's network of principal road routes, for various rail networks including the London Underground, London Overground, Docklands Light Railway and TfL Rail, for London's trams, buses and taxis, for cycling provision, and for river services. The underlying services are provided by a mixture of wholly owned subsidiary companies (principally London Underground), by private sector franchisees (the remaining rail services, trams and most buses) and by licensees (some buses, taxis and river services). TfL is also responsible, jointly with the national Department for Transport (DfT), for commissioning the construction of the new Crossrail line, and will be responsible for franchising its operation once completed.
London i/ˈlʌndən/ is the capital and most populous city of England and the United Kingdom. Standing on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. It was founded by the Romans, who named it Londinium. London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its 1.12-square-mile (2.9 km2) medieval boundaries and in 2011 had a resident population of 7,375, making it the smallest city in England. Since at least the 19th century, the term London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core. The bulk of this conurbation forms Greater London, a region of England governed by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. The conurbation also covers two English counties: the small district of the City of London and the county of Greater London. The latter constitutes the vast majority of London, though historically it was split between Middlesex (a now abolished county), Essex, Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire.

Here we have a Jubilee Line train, 1996 tube stock, entering and leaving the West Ham Station. In the adjacent right-of-way, we have the automated Docklands Light Railway, and one of their B92 stock trains, a 4-car consist, enters and leaves its West Ham Station platforms. Upstairs is the Hammersmith & City and District Lines alongside the National Rail c2c network.

Stock Jeep Renegade Trailhawk attempt at TFL cliffhanger 2.0 trail. Only made it to the trail split. Limited by tires. Stock tires did not provide enough grip in the deep sand. They would just dig deeper into the sand and rock.
Dan Mewett, solution architect for Transport for London (TfL), shares the production infrastructure for TfL on AWS and provides detail around how and why the cloud has powered its online services—such as its popular journey planner tool, which allows TfL to scale complex computational requirements to meet huge seasonal spikes in demand. He highlights their use of Auto Scaling to meet demands and unlock massive cost savings. He also highlights the importance of security and disaster recovery in the cloud. Alongside our industry partners Crossrail, DfT, Network Rail, WES, and WTS, TfL is using this anniversary to launch the 100 Years of Women in Transport programme. The programme will celebrate the role that women have played in the industry during the past 100 years and give us an opportunity to look at our industry today. By reflecting on our current diversity, we'll be able to identify the opportunities which will develop our workforce in the future. This campaign is as much about celebrating the past as it is about the present and the future: attracting and retaining talented staff, contributing to the wider economy, and making sure that we can respond to the operational and delivery challenges we now face.
